Hire the company whose quote spells out the work, not the one with the smallest number. Before you hire someone to clean gutters, check that the quote covers hand-clearing every run, hauling the debris away, flushing and flow-testing every downspout, and before-and-after photos, and that the company is insured for ladder work. A low quote that leaves any of those out is usually a different, smaller job.
How much should gutter cleaning cost in Austin?
A typical gutter cleaning quote starts at $200, and your exact quote depends on linear feet of gutter, stories, roof pitch and access, how packed the gutters are, and whether there are guards. That's Casa Care's own starting point for an Austin-area home, with haul-away and downspout flushing always included.
Here's what moves a quote up or down, and why:
- Linear feet of gutter. The biggest factor. A compact single-story bungalow and a sprawling two-story are very different jobs.
- Stories. Second-story gutters take more ladder work and safety setup.
- Roof pitch and access. Steep roofs, tight side yards, and gutters over decks or landscaping take extra care and equipment to reach safely.
- How packed the gutters are. A light dusting of leaves clears fast. A season of wet, composted oak debris or a plugged downspout takes real time.
- Gutter guards or screens. Guards have to be lifted, cleaned under, and reset, which adds time.
If you're comparing gutter cleaning quotes online, keep in mind that two numbers only compare fairly when they cover the same work. Our guide to window cleaning costs in Austin also answers the gutter and pressure-washing cost question if you're getting quotes for a few services at once.

What should every gutter cleaning quote include?
Every gutter cleaning quote should include hand-clearing every run, bagging and hauling the debris away, flushing and flow-testing every downspout, and before-and-after photos. Those four are the difference between gutters that look empty from the street and a system that actually drains.
A complete visit also covers the details that are easy to skip when a crew is rushing. This is the checklist our crews finish before calling a gutter system done:
- Debris hand-removed from every gutter run
- All debris bagged and hauled away
- Every downspout flushed to confirm it drains
- Loose or sagging brackets checked and re-seated
- Gutter guards and screens lifted, cleared, and reset
- Exterior gutter faces wiped clean
- Roof valleys and gutter corners cleared of buildup
- A final flow test on the whole system
- Before-and-after photos sent to you
Use that list as your yardstick when another company sends a quote. If a line isn't mentioned, ask about it before you book. The full step-by-step process lives on our gutter cleaning in Austin page.
What should I ask before I hire a gutter cleaner?
Ask about insurance for ladder work, whether they clear by hand, whether they flush and test downspouts, whether debris is hauled away, whether they send photos, and how soon they can come. Whether you searched for the best gutter cleaners near me or for affordable gutter cleaning, the same ten questions sort the companies out. Tick each one off as you get a good answer, or screenshot the list and keep it next to the phone.

What are the red flags in a gutter cleaning quote?
The biggest red flags are a quote that doesn't mention downspouts, debris that gets blown or left behind instead of hauled away, no photos, and no proof of insurance for ladder work. Each one usually means part of the job isn't happening. Tap a flag to see why it matters.
The quote never mentions downspouts
A clean gutter feeding a plugged elbow still dumps water against the house. If flushing and flow-testing every downspout isn't written into the quote, assume it isn't included.
Debris is "removed" but not hauled away
Blowing debris off the roofline sends wet leaves into your beds, onto the lawn, or down the walls. Ask where the debris goes. The answer you want is "in bags, and we take it with us."
Haul-away or flushing shows up as an extra
Those two steps are the core of the job, not add-ons. When they're billed separately, the low starting number isn't the real cost of a finished gutter cleaning.
A number without any questions
An honest quote depends on your home: linear feet, stories, roof pitch and access, how packed the gutters are, and guards. A flat number given before anyone asks about those is a guess, and guesses tend to grow on the day.
No before-and-after photos
You can't see inside a second-story gutter from the driveway. Photos are how you know every run was actually cleared, especially if you weren't home.
Vague about insurance
Gutter cleaning is ladder work. Any company you hire should be able to tell you what coverage it carries and send proof before the work starts.
Guards are "too much trouble"
Fine grit and oak tassels still get under guards and screens. A crew that won't lift them is cleaning the top layer and leaving the clog underneath.

Is cheap gutter cleaning worth it?
Cheap gutter cleaning is only worth it if it includes the same work, and a low quote often gets there by skipping steps: downspouts that aren't flushed, debris left in the beds, and no photos to show what was done. Affordable gutter cleaning and cheap gutter cleaning aren't the same thing. Affordable means a fair number for the whole job. Cheap often means a smaller job sold under the same name.
The skipped steps are the expensive ones to miss. Water that overflows a clogged gutter or backs up at a plugged downspout soaks the soil at the foundation, and on Austin's expansive clay, that soak-and-dry cycle drives the slab movement behind cracked drywall and sticking doors. It also rots fascia and soffit behind the gutter.
As one of our customers put it in a Google review:
“Effective, professional, and not too pricey! If you have gutters that need to be cleaned out I highly recommend going with Casa Care.” Connor Woods, Google review
How do I compare gutter cleaning packages and quotes?
Compare gutter cleaning packages line by line against the same scope, not by the bottom number. Put each quote next to the checklist above and mark what's included: hand-clearing, haul-away, downspout flushing and flow testing, brackets, guards, gutter faces, valleys and corners, a final flow test, and photos. Then compare the numbers.
Quotes only line up when every company quotes the same house. Give each one your approximate linear footage and number of stories, mention any guards, and send a couple of photos of the worst section. Our quote tool asks for footage and stories up front, or you can text photos to (512) 522-4985.
Two more things to line up: whether the quote is one firm number or a range, and whether recurring visits are offered. If you want gutters done on a schedule, our maintenance plans book the visits for you at a discounted per-visit rate.
Do you need a special crew for a two-story house?
You don't need a specialist, but you do need a crew that's set up and insured for second-story ladder work, and Casa Care cleans second-story gutters. Second-story gutters take more ladder work and safety setup, so they take a little longer and cost a bit more than single-story runs. That's why our quote tool asks for the number of stories, so your quote reflects it from the start.
When you're hiring for gutter cleaning on a two-story house, ask how the crew sets up. Ours uses padded, stabilized ladders, puts tarps under the work areas, and protects the landscaping before anyone climbs.
A second-story gutter means a tall extension ladder, a full bag of wet debris, and reaching out from the rungs. The CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) says ladder safety is a concern for anyone completing a task that requires a ladder because of the risk of falling, and puts the proper angle for an extension ladder at about 75 degrees. If the ladder setup makes you nervous, that's the job to hand off.
How often should Austin gutters be cleaned?
Twice a year, in late spring and late fall, and homes under a heavy live-oak or pecan canopy often need three or four cleanings a year. Live oaks drop old leaves and stringy tassels in late winter and spring, and pecans, acorns, and seed pods come down in the fall, so the gutters fill in waves.
That lines up with university guidance. Oklahoma State University Extension's downspout fact sheet says gutters need to be cleaned and cleared of leaves at least twice a year, more often if the home is surrounded by trees, and that elbows and bends should be kept clear. Austin's fall leaf and acorn drop is the busiest time for gutters, so the late-fall visit is the one not to skip.
If you're booking the roof or a house wash too, the gutters go right after the roof and before the walls. Our guide to the right exterior cleaning order explains why.

Should I add gutter guards or drain-line clearing?
Both are add-ons you can request with any cleaning: gutter-guard installation, and clearing the underground drain lines some downspouts feed. If you already have guards, they're lifted, cleared underneath, and reset as part of a normal visit, and we'll point out any section that's damaged or poorly fitted.
Guards cut down how often gutters need cleaning, but they don't make gutters maintenance-free, especially under Austin's oaks, because fine grit and oak tassels still slip through or mat on top. A roof blow-off of leaf debris can be added too. Mention any add-on when you request your quote so it's built into the number.
Do I need to be home for gutter cleaning?
No. Gutter cleaning is exterior work, so you don't need to be home, as long as the gates are open to every side of the house. You'll get an on-the-way text, then before-and-after photos and a digital invoice after the visit, so you can see the downspouts running clear even if you were at work.
